Aging Well Is a State of Mind
There’s no way around it, getting older is a normal part of life. While you can’t prevent it from happening, you can control how you react to it. By maintaining a positive attitude, you can change your perception about aging. Age truly is a state of mind, and whether you see the glass as half full or half empty is up to you. To help put things in perspective, Schiff® has compiled some tips on aging well.
Get Moving
Healthy aging starts with regular physical activity. Not only will it improve your fitness level, it’s also vital for your mental and emotional well-being. Exercise helps keep you engaged in life and minimizes your risk of developing depression and anxiety.
And to help keep your joints in shape while you’re working out, try Schiff® Move Free® Advanced Plus MSM. It’s the only formula clinically shown to be two times more effective at comforting sore joints than Glucosamine and Chondroitin alone.* This unique formula contains:
Uniflex® Proprietary Extract is covered by U.S. Patent No. 7,108,868, No. 7,192,611 and additional patents pending.
Minimize Stress, Minimize Aging
What makes some people age more quickly than others? That’s been a subject of much debate over the years, and recent evidence suggests that chronic stress may be the culprit. It seems that long-term stress causes damage at the cellular level, which dramatically speeds up the natural aging process. The good news is that by finding positive ways to handle stress you can minimize its effects.
Taking CoQ-10 can also be beneficial in the fight against aging. It helps produce cellular energy, which supports cardiovascular and immune function. Coenzyme Q-10 is found in the mitochondria, the energy factories of the cells, and helps prevent free-radical damage. Schiff® CoQ-10 100mg uses CoQsol, which has two times better absorption than regular CoQ-10.** This is important because CoQ-10 that doesn’t get absorbed into the blood is literally wasted.
Stay Connected
An active social life provides friendship and much-needed support at any age. And now there’s even evidence that having strong friendships can help you live longer. In fact, people with an extensive network of close friendships outlive those with few friends by as much as 22 percent. While it may require a little more effort to stay connected with others later in life, especially if you’re retired or living alone, it’s definitely beneficial.
Get Enough Sleep
When you’re not well rested, it affects you in more ways than you might think. Since your body repairs cells as you sleep, not getting enough rest can disrupt your body’s ability to recover from illness and other health problems. By getting an adequate amount of sleep each night, you’ll feel better and be more able to cope with the changes that occur as you age. Numerous studies have shown that taking 1mg to 3mg of supplemental melatonin just before bedtime improves sleep quality, helping you fall asleep quicker and feel more rested when you wake up. Try Schiff® Melatonin 1mg or Schiff® Melatonin Plus, which contains added theanine, a natural compound found in green tea known for its calming and stress-relieving properties.
In addition to getting the rest you need, make sure you get enough vitamin C by eating plenty of citrus fruits and taking Schiff® Vitamin C 1,000 With Rose Hips. This water-soluble vitamin is essential for many vital metabolic reactions and plays an important role in immune function, cardiovascular health and more. This formula also contains rose hips, which help enhance absorption.
Take Charge of Your Health
Ever notice how taking control of a situation can completely change your perception of it? Your healthcare is no exception. Instead of playing a passive role when it comes to your health, make a conscious decision to become actively involved in it. Take charge of your health care and participate in decisions that affect you. And don’t be afraid to ask questions. The more you know about your health, the better you’ll feel. Live With Purpose
While some people thrive after they retire, others aren’t sure what to do with their newfound freedom. If you’re among the latter, remember that you’re not alone in feeling that way. For many of us, work gives our lives a sense of purpose that may seem lacking in retirement. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Think about the things that you enjoy doing and find a way to incorporate them into your new lifestyle, perhaps through volunteering, getting a part-time job or just taking part in community activities.
Spend Time With Your Grandchildren
Did you know that visiting your grandkids is actually good for you? When you relate with another generation, you learn new things and see the world in new ways. That can be a great motivator and may reduce depression and boredom while improving health. If you don’t have grandchildren of your own, consider volunteering for a youth organization in your community.
Think Positive
There may be a direct link between optimism and living a longer, healthier life. Optimists are more likely to overcome medical problems and tend to have fewer complications. To tap into the power of positive thinking, start by cultivating hopeful expectations for your health. When you’re sick, instead of anticipating the worst, concentrate on optimistic outcomes. It works for the placebo effect and it can work for you too.
