Not that we’re advocating for you to begin drinking, but if you already have a glass of red wine here and there – you should at least know the positive connection between red wine and heart health!
Here’s why we believe a 4 oz. glass of red wine can do your heart (and other functions) some justice:
- Red wine is rich in antioxidants. The antioxidants found in red wine are believed to help support healthy levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), which is the “good” cholesterol. Polyphenol. This is a type of antioxidant found in red wine, which can help protect the blood vessel lining in your heart
- Resveratrol: This is another type of antioxidant found in red wine, which is thought to help prevent blood clots.
- Improves production. Red wine plays a role in increasing the mitochondrial function, which in turn increases cellular energy production.
- Protects against free radical damage. Free radicals are “cellular by-products that…can literally trash our bodies5.” With that being said, red wine can help protect your arteries!
But, remember – it’s only okay to drink in moderation! Red wine and heart health can only go hand-in-hand if the appropriate amount is consumed. Drinking excessively (or even just slightly more than you’re supposed to) can lead to heart problems1. There’s a fine line between the two, but having a small glass of red wine with dinner is considered perfectly fine.
For a heart healthy dinner, try adding a glass of red wine and a small, easy-to-swallow MegaRed®, and you’ll be on the road to supporting your heart health!

† Supportive, but not conclusive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA Omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. ♦The MegaRed 3X formulation uses a self microemulsifying drug delivery system (SMEDDS) technology to support high absorption. Studies show that applying the SMEDDS technology to highly concentrated fish oils dramatically improve the absorption of both EPA and DHA
